Ashes Fever Grips Australia as Ticket Sales Smash Records

The Ashes has always been a series that has been a talking point. First contested in 1882, the Australia-England battle has become a pillar of the game’s oldest traditions.

It is the kind of contest that draws in not just die-hard fans, but casual followers too, all united by the history, drama and high stakes that come with every edition.

With the 2025–26 series on the horizon, anticipation is again running high. Both teams have scores to settle, especially after the riveting 2-2 draw in England two years ago. That result left no clear winner, and no one satisfied. As the action shifts to Australia, the excitement is at an all-time high.

More Than 1,60,000 Tickets Sold in a Single Day

It’s no surprise, then, that ticket demand has already hit extraordinary levels. On June 3, Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed that over 160,000 tickets were snapped up within hours of the priority pre-sale going live. That number didn’t just set a new benchmark, it demolished the previous record of 111,741 tickets sold in a single day during the 2017-18 Ashes.

Fans logged in by the thousands, only to be met with digital waiting rooms packed with over 200,000 hopefuls at times. The rush was especially intense for traditional blockbusters like the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and the day-night Ashes Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Tickets for those marquee fixtures were gone in a flash.

"The record demand for tickets shows the excitement fans are feeling about the fantastic international season to come," Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said as quoted.
"To surpass our previous ticket sales record even before NSW and WA tickets had gone on sale is a remarkable achievement and reaffirms our position as Australia's national sport...I would urge those who haven't already bought their tickets to do so now as we expect allocations to be exhausted for some days," he added.

For those who missed out, there’s still hope, the general public sale opens on June 13. But judging by the early numbers, availability won’t last long.

A Packed Cricketing Calendar Down Under

Australia’s home season is not just about the Ashes. Before England arrive for the five-Test showdown, the Australian men’s team will be tested in white-ball series against South Africa and India.

Then, as the summer winds down, the spotlight will shift to the women’s game. India’s women are set to tour Australia for a full multi-format series, including three T20Is, three ODIs and one Test.
