Indian captain Shubman Gill received strong backing from pacer Prasidh Krishna after India’s loss in the first Test at Headingley. Gill came under the scanner following the team’s poor start to the series.
Despite the 5-wicket defeat, Prasidh defended Gill’s leadership, praising his rotation of bowlers across both innings. While Gill’s inexperience showed under pressure, he was consistently supported by vice-captain Rishabh Pant and senior player KL Rahul throughout the match.

“He Created a Good Atmosphere” – Prasidh on Gill’s Leadership
Prasidh, who has previously played under Gill’s captaincy, shared positive feedback about his role in the Test:
"I think he(Shubman) did a pretty good job. All of us saw how he rotated the bowlers, made sure everyone got enough breaks, and brought bowlers in at the right times. He spotted opportunities and used the right bowlers accordingly. All of that was great. And knowing him, he created a very good atmosphere around the team."
He also highlighted Gill’s vocal presence on the field and the comfort he brings to the squad. On India’s preparation for the 2nd Test, Prasidh noted that the team is focusing on improving lower-order batting:
"He's been speaking to all of us. We always go in with a plan, and the communication is happening there. As lower-order batsmen, we are definitely working on our game. If you look at our net sessions, we are putting in the work. I think it's also about putting your mind into it—making sure you trust yourself, trust the skill you have, and stay at the crease a little longer. The runs and numbers will then follow. And we are working towards that." prasidh said

Addressing reports of unrest in the dressing room after the first Test defeat, Prasidh dismissed them and emphasized the team’s unity:
"The dressing room is still positive, happy, and very, very motivated. Like I said, we came here knowing what this opportunity meant for all of us. And even in the game today, we might have looked quiet at times, but I think we still had a plan." he concluded.
