Aakash Chopra questions why Jasprit Bumrah’s limited match availability was publicized, saying it gives England a strategic advantage

ENG vs IND: India to Stick to Jasprit Bumrah’s Three-Test Plan Despite Headingley Setback

Former cricketer turned YouTuber Aakash Chopra criticised Jasprit Bumrah’s availability being publicized in the media ahead of the England tour.

Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir was the first to reveal Bumrah’s availability when it was speculated how many matches the pacers would play in the series. Aakash Chopra criticised this move, highlighting that the Indian team doesn’t usually disclose such information publicly.

"Bumrah said he will play three matches only, and I’m wondering whether it was necessary to publicize it. Why was it not kept a secret? We don’t announce our team either. So why was it necessary to repeatedly reiterate before the start of the tour that he would play only three matches? Let them guess. You play whichever Tests you wish," Chopra said.

Aakash Chopra Warns That Revealing Bumrah’s Availability Gives England a Tactical Edge

Aakash Chopra noted that these disclosures give England an advantage, allowing them to prepare the pitch accordingly.

"You’ve played one, and you know you can play only two of the remaining four matches, which is not a good thing. If you play the second as well, you will play one of three. So suddenly, the opposition gets into a great frame of mind that Bumrah, your biggest strength, is not there. They can prepare pitches accordingly," he observed.

Bumrah Likely to Be Rested for 2nd Test

Jasprit Bumrah, who registered a record fifer in the 1st Test against England, carried the bowling in the 1st innings. In the second innings, he struggled to find wickets and notably left the field once he completed his spell, when England needed just a few runs to win. This led to speculation among fans about whether Bumrah will play the 2nd Test.

Reportedly, Jasprit Bumrah is on the verge of being rested for the 2nd Test to manage workload. This news is yet to be confirmed by the Indian team. If Bumrah does not play the 2nd Test, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj are expected to step up their bowling, with Arshdeep Singh expected to play ahead of Prasidh Krishna.
