Rassie van der Dussen to Lead South Africa in T20I Tri-Series Against Zimbabwe and New Zealand
Rassie van der Dussen will captain South Africa in the absence of Aiden Markram during the upcoming T20I tri-series featuring Zimbabwe and New Zealand, scheduled to take place in Harare.
Cricket South Africa has announced its squad for the tri-series, with several regulars, including Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, and Keshav Maharaj rested as part of workload management. In their place, several fresh faces have been called up, with the experienced van der Dussen named as skipper

Shukri Conrad Sets Sights on 2026 T20 World Cup
The series marks the first major assignment for head coach Shukri Conrad since taking over as South Africa’s all-format coach. Conrad who recently won the WTC Finals 2025 with South Africa He sees the tri-series as a key stepping stone in preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
"This T20I tri-series marks the start of our preparation for next year's T20 World Cup," Conrad said. "With several senior players rested as part of their workload management, it creates space for these players to step in and show what they can offer, and bring them into contention for World Cup selection.
Among the notable inclusions are Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Rubin Hermann, Dewald Brevis, who earned call-ups after impressive, consistent performances during the SA20 2025 season. With Heinrich Klaasen recently announcing his retirement from international cricket, South Africa are looking toward the next generation to step up.
“Lhuan-dre and Rubin have been rewarded for their outstanding domestic form in the SA20,” Conrad added. “We’re excited to see how they adapt to the demands of international cricket. We also know what Corbin has to offer at this level, and we’re keen to see how his Test and ODI skills translate into the T20I format.”

The tri-series, hosted by Zimbabwe and featuring South Africa and New Zealand, begins on July 14 with the opening match between Zimbabwe and South Africa. The final is scheduled for July 26 in Harare.
